ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

David Heim

David Heim grew up in Colorado and moved to New York City to attend college at Columbia University. He managed to graduate and go on to earn a master’s degree from the Columbia Journalism School. This led to a 28-year editorial career at Consumer Reports magazine. After leaving Consumer Reports, his love of woodworking landed him at Fine Woodworking magazine. There, he edited an article by a retired engineer about a certain 3-D design and modeling program known as SketchUp and his curiosity bloomed. Since then, he has used SketchUp in one activity or another nearly every day. He has edited three SketchUp books. He regularly teaches an introductory SketchUp class at his local Woodcraft store, at the Connecticut Valley School of Woodworking, and at the Brookfield Craft Center of Connecticut. And he has posted more than 400 models of traditional and contemporary furniture to a SketchUp database known as the 3D Warehouse. David currently lives in Connecticut with his wife and son.  Also on the board of the American Woodturner's Association, David used his SketchUp acumen in publishing his first book with Spring House Press, Woodturning Patterns, in July 2017.
