Sponsored by the Association of Woodworking & Furnishings Suppliers® (AWFS®), the Fresh Wood competition showcases the talents of woodworking students from high-school and post-secondary programs across the United States and Canada. The finalists, chosen by a panel of esteemed judges from the woodworking industry, ultimately have their work displayed at the biennial AWFS®Fair in Las Vegas, NV, where the People’s Choice, Best of Show, and other top category prizes are awarded.
With more than 100 projects featured, the Fresh Wood Design Book is a compilation of the innovative and stunning work on display at the Fresh Wood finals from 2017 to 2021. Professionally photographed and accompanied by insightful first-person commentary regarding the design and construction process, each piece is sure to inspire fellow students and woodworkers while enlightening educators and industry professionals. More than a collection of finished work, the Fresh Wood Design Book is a glimpse into the promising future of the woodworking industry.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
The Association of Woodworking & Furnishings Suppliers
Founded in 1911 , AWFS® is the largest national trade association in the United States representing companies that supply the home and commercial furnishing industry. AWFS® has an international membership that includes manufacturers and distributors of machinery, hardware, plastics, and other supplies to furniture and cabinet manufacturers, and custom woodworkers.
One of the Association’s key objectives is to encourage woodworking education and foster the links between industry and educational organizations. As part of this initiative, AWFS® launched the Student Design Contest, Fresh Wood, in 1999. Other substantial education initiatives include relationships with SkillsUSA California and Woodwork Career Alliance (WCA). SkillsUSA is one of the largest Career and Technical Education student organizations in the nation and emphasizes trade-specific and leadership skill training. The result is the development of students into well-prepared, professional members of the workforce and future leaders in their chosen industries. The Woodwork Career Alliance develops the wood manufacturing skill standards and continually seeks to improve the skill certification program for the industry.
